Sustainable Development Committee presents:
Sustainable Fuel in the HK Transportation Sector - Challenges & Opportunities
The HK Government has identified that, following electricity generation, which contributes over 60% of the total greenhouse gas emission locally, the transport sector comes next at just under 20%. Meanwhile, local transport accounted for about 7% of GDP in 2023. In order to reduce GHG in the entire transportation sector including road, marine and aviation, the government is pursuing a multi-pronged approach in promoting cleaner and greener fuel use. These initiatives include:
Will these coordinated efforts help to "move the needle"? Is the policy landscape adequate at present? Is HK ready and able to take on the challenges for transport sector decarbonisation? Is there sufficient support for R&D and development of the value chain in all forms of green fuel inputs? What is the demand uptake scenario? Will the new green fuel demand pull evoke an adequate supply chain response? These are the hot button topics in the pursuit of Sustainable Fuel in Transportation.
Our panel of industry experts will help answer some of these questions. You are invited to participate in the dialogue at this panel and contribute to the thought process in promoting green energy in HK's vital transportation sector.
