WestK FunFest 2025: CORPUS – La bulle

Overview

Alone in a one-of-a-kind bubble tent, the melancholy dreamer Pierrot connects with the world around him through dance, drawing, magic and dreams.

This April, internationally acclaimed Canadian dance theatre company CORPUS bring their ethereal, award-winning mime performance La bulle (The Bubble) to the Art Park.

Alone in the surreal theatrical setting of a transparent bubble – a poetic, magical space that speaks of human connection, solitude and the power of imagination – Pierrot reaches out to those around him and inwards to the realm of dreams.

In this fully transparent private space there is nowhere to hide. Through mime, dance, text and drawing, the lone figure makes connections with his audience, creating ephemeral bonds with those who are willing to give him a little time.

Dressed in the archetypal black and white costume and make-up, Pierrot is played with magical, child-like physicality by artistic director David Danzon. Embracing his solitude through poetry and imagination he transports us to worlds of fantasy. As innocence and humour shift to something more complex and cynical, the intricacy of his character will touch your heart and lead you on a journey steeped in poetry, joy, sorrow and absurdity.

Performed outside on the Harbourside Lawn West, La bulle (The Bubble) places the audience in the round, with audience members free to sit or move around the set without constraint.

A festival of international and local performance celebrating the transformative power of imagination

You can also enjoy Pollinator – a live artist residency and experimental performance event devised by US artist duo Alex Schweder and Ward Shelley, free pop-up performances around the Art Park, artist-led workshops, and free, interactive xiqu workshops.
